World champion Thor Hushovd won the 13th stage of the 2011 Tour de France after a thrilling finish to the 152.5km trek from Pau to Lourdes. Thor was wearing Bont’s WCE Vaypor Shoes.

“I really didn’t think I would win this stage,” said Hushovd, who took the race lead when helping his Garmin team win stage two’s team time trial and held it for a week.

“I did things right tactically. It’s true that I descend very well. I knew I had to. It was super.”

The cycling careers of four young and up-coming athletes got a huge boost at yesterday’s Triathlon Cycling & Running Show at Sandown Park in Esher.  

The Prestige Velo Club Youth Development Team, which is made up of four boys – Dan Maslin, Rory Townsend, Louis Magnani and Ben Chapman – was officially unveiled at the show.  The development team has been launched specifically for young, talented cyclists under the age of 16, and aims to help them continue to develop as they progress through junior into senior competition.

Speaking at the launch, team member Rory Townsend said:  “It’s really good to get the boys together.  I’m so happy with all the sponsors, and it’s great to have so much interest when we’re still young. It looks like this will be a successful season for the whole team; we have four strong rides that are willing to work for themselves and each other.”

TCL Sports are pleased to announce a sponsorship agreement between Bont Cycling and the newly formed Prestige Velo Club Youth Squad. The Prestige Velo Club Youth Squad is and elite team of four riders who will be riding road and track in 2011 in the U16 category (BC Cat A).  The idea behind the team is to provide talented riders with an opportunity to gain help and support at a crucial point in their cycling careers. Bont will supply the team with a-two’s.

The team launch will be at the Triathlon Cycling and Running Show in February and the rider squad for 2011 consists of:

• Dan Maslin – former U14 National Champion in both road and track.  Dan is a fierce competitor and has been accepted on to British Cycling’s Talent Program for the second year in a row.
• Rory Townsend – current Inter-Area Cyclocross Champion with the SE Team.  before switching from road to cross was lying 6th on the national points standings with 14 wins in both youth and adult races.
• Louis Magnani – current U14 National Champion, won despite recovering from a broken collarbone.  Talented sprinter with 23 U14 race wins so far in 2010.
• Ben Chapman- winner of the prestigious Isle of Man Youth Tour, North West Youth Tour and Tour of Blackpool.  A major talent with a huge future in stage racing

The team’s race schedule begins in May-July 2011 with the National Circuit Series 6-8 Races.

It was another great weekend for TCL Sports at the London Cycle show. Plenty of interest in the compression cycle range from club riders and weekend warriors alike. Compression tights were the best selling items as always, but there were plenty of people trying new range of recovery products and loving them.

There was also a great reception to the Bont cycle shoes. Working in conjunction with Mosquito Bikes (London) we had the latest range of shoes on show for everyone to see.
