Lanzarote Ironman – Its all about the bike

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Traditionally the marker of the start of the European Ironman season IM Lanzarote kicked off the season last weekend. After taking a number of years out of racing triathlon, Mike Martin of TCL Sports decided to make a little come-back and race in what is commonly known as the ‘toughest Ironman in the world’. Unfortunately due to his busy schedule at the start of the triathlon season his pre-race training never happened and so when heading out on Saturday his only aim was to survive. Thankfully the race went better than expected and despite holding back the entire way, through fear of ‘bonking’ Mike completed the course in 11hrs, 4min.

Mike was very happy and surprised with his result saying; “I cant believe that I managed to complete the race in such a time, I went out looking just to get through but as soon as I started I couldn’t stop my competitive attitude taking hold. The 2XU Project X wetsuit was exceptional, it really helped me to finish the swim feeling fresh and ready for the bike, I feel so lucky to have had such an advantage over my competitors, it just isn’t fair when your in a X:1 and your rivals aren’t! Despite the infamous reputation of the bike course it is certainly beautiful, riding the Ceepo Katana seemed effortless, I now cant wait until the next race.”
